Ever heard the song “Baby Don’t You Break My Heart Slow” by Vonda Shepard? Well for me, it’s one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever known. The lyrics are so true it could almost make me cry.
I’d rather you be mean than love and lie, I’d rather hear the truth and have to say goodbye. I’d rather take the blow, at least then I would know. But baby don’t you break my heart slow
One time, me and my bestfriend were chatting through YM and she was having a problem with a man who was so in love with her. He brings her flowers and chocolates, invites her to movies and dinner, and he makes her feel that she is the most important woman in the whole universe. Yes, those acts are sweet and romantic but the thing is this: my bestfriend doesn’t reciprocate the feelings 
Before the guy started acting “weird” (as she describes it), they were best of friends. They hang out with each other, they share stories, and since they work in the same company, they also take lunch together. Everything was okey until the guy confessed his feelings for her. Now, my friend is uncomfortable being around him and she even plans to gradually avoid him.
Not that I want to meddle. I know I don’t have the right to do so, but since my friend asked for my opinion, I told her that it wouldn’t be fair to ignore and avoid the guy just because he suddenly fell in love with her. In my opinion, it would be better to tell it straight that all she can offer is friendship and nothing more. Sure, he’d feel rejected but it’s better than staying numb about it, else he might misinterpret.
Yes. Just like that song, I’d rather hear the truth if I were that guy.
