Friendship For Me

When I was younger, I used to hear people say “The only way to have a friend is to be one.” True enough, I’ve learned that sometimes birds of the same feather don’t always flock together. Some friends have hobbies and goals which are totally different from mine. I found out that friends don’t always like to watch the same movies, don’t always buy the same style of clothes, don’t always want the same color of lipstick, don’t always have the same dreams, etc. Rather than forcing them to get interested with my “wants,” I  learned that a true friend respects and encourages your uniqueness. I believe friendship exists when you both understand that you can’t always agree on everything. I can’t call you my friend if I always need to say yes to you. Because with my true friends, I can always express myself even if it is a contradiction to their beliefs. A friend is someone who accepts you for who you are and tells you the truth when you need to hear it, even if it hurts. To be a true friend is to understand that each of us has a unique personality.
