Strawberries Make Me Sick

That’s right … I don’t like strawberries. I don’t eat any strawberry-flavored food most especially if it’s ice cream. Yay! The mere thought is enough to make me feel dizzy. I know a lot of people are saying that strawberries are sweet and that they taste really good and that good food brings back good memories but that’s just not my case :( Friends are often surprised everytime I tell them I’m not a fan of strawberries. Some are even annoyed saying I’m all that arte (choosy). I don’t know. Maybe it’s all in my mindset. When I was small, my parents would always have to bring me to PGH (Philippine General Hospital) because I was a sickling. Asthma, allergies, flu, etc. As far as I can recall, I hated the bitter taste of medicines so my mom and the nice nurse convinced me to take all those tablets and syrups by telling me that those are strawberry-flavored so the taste must be really good. And so I grew up with the idea that strawberries taste like medicine. To make it worse, their smell reminds me of the unpleasant atmosphere of a hospital. I know I sound strange and weird but it’s the truth.

A Taste of Italian Cuisine

The food was excellent but I almost choked when the waitress gave us the bill. I didn’t know that eating in an Italian restaurant is that expensive. Of course, I was aware that the prices wouldn’t be the same as eating in McDonald’s but I was still surprised (I think the right term was “shocked” hehe) that the bill was more than triple of what I expected. Good thing is I really didn’t have to worry about it because my friend paid for everything. She just got promoted to a higher position so it was her treat.

The menu includes a large selection of pasta dishes, pizzas and desserts. We ordered chicken spaghetti and pepperoni pizza for the main course, and chocolate sundae and tiramisu for dessert.  I love iced tea but for the record, I decided to drink just water. The ambience was intimate with dim lighting and there were paintings hanging on the wall. Perfect for couples who like the romantic atmosphere. There were just a few other diners when we dined there. I’m not so sure why there were very few customers but I’m guessing the reason for that is that it’s really costly to dine in Italian restaurants.

I mentioned this experience to my aunt in California who coincidentally loves Italian dishes. She is a regular customer of an Italian Restaurant in San Diego and she said it’s really expensive but still a good value for her money. One of the most famous Italian restaurants in my Aunt Letty’s place is Trattoria Acqua. This restaurant offers superb banquet facilities in La Jolla California making it a perfect venue to host a party or a wedding reception.

If you will ask me , I still want to come back to that restaurant. Never mind that their dishes are very expensive. Never mind that the waiters and waitresses made me feel uncomfortable with their “too polite” gestures. And yes, never mind that next time, I will have to pay for my food :) I honestly believe that Italian Cuisine is the best!
