Not Sweating the Small Stuff

A lot of things annoy me, I admit. Like cashiers who cut their eyes off me when I can’t provide a smaller bill. Sales ladies (mga tindera) who look at me from head to toe when I ask for discounts. Taxi drivers who over-charge. Flamers who comment nasty things on my blogs. Busy-bodies who know nothing but to gossip. Blah, blah. All of them. They never fail to bring out the war freak in me. I wonder, what in the world are they thinking? Sometimes, I want to give them a tongue-lashing. But I get it. The world is not perfect and that life has it’s stresses, sadness and disappointments. And that it is inevitable to meet inconsiderate people. Blah, blah. I don’t want to sound like a grouch and I also don’t want my blog to contain just negative thoughts (like hating strawberries and paid posts being rejected haha!) so I am making a decision today. From this day on, I will try not to get affected when I feel like I’ve been mistreated. Of course, I will still protect/defend myself when I feel the need to do so. But never again will I allow myself to be stressed by negative comments or actions from other people. I will try to just shrug it off and forget the incident. And most of all, I will try not to blog about those kinds anymore. I thank you, bow.

The Story of My Pen Name

Original post was written on January 24, 2009 : Sterndal & Sternchen

Everytime visitors ask me about the exact meaning of my pseudonym, I always tell them that sterndal is the German word for star, starry or little star (something like that). You see, I am crazy about stars and constellations. It’s amazing how they twinkle and sparkle at night especially when the sky is clear. Simply beautiful! So, when I needed a pen name for my blog, I didn’t think twice about sterndal. I told myself it would be perfect! And why not? I am a star in my own right :)

The funny thing is this: one visitor from Norway who happens to speak German disagrees with me. As far as he knows, star in German would be stern and not sterndal. Really? Mmmn … I wasn’t quite sure because I don’t really speak German (though I know a few phrases such as ich vermisse dich or guten tag). So I asked a friend from Munich about his thoughts on this and surprise!!! I was badly mistaken about the correct meaning of sterndal haha!  According to my friend who is a true blooded German, star is stern and little star would be sternchen! And would you believe that he doesn’t know what is meant by sterndal? He said it could be a name but definitely, it’s not little star in their language. Well, I still believe it’s a german word haha :) Stubborn!
